LD:NorthEast have been providing dedicated personalised social care services to the Learning Disability community in North Tyneside since 1993 and their new vision is to see their reach extend throughout the region.
LD:NorthEast believes that everybody in society should have the same basic rights, responsibilities and opportunities to lead a full and rewarding life. People who have a learning disability sometimes just need a little extra support to do this. They support people to make friends, take part in activities that support their health, wellbeing and safety and to live as individuals, being in charge of everything they do.
North Tyneside Carers' Centre
North Tyneside Carers' Centre provide support to anyone who on an unpaid basis looks after a relative, family member or friend because of physical or mental illness, disability or substance misuse. They offer information, advice and support tailored to meet a carers needs, including : advocacy; someone to talk; practical training to help with the caring role; regular newsletters and information; support with education, employment and training; groups and activities where carers can meet others in similar situations and share experiences and views; a break from the caring role; specialist mental health support; help through the carer assessment process; counselling and aromatherapy; support and activities for Young Carers; consultation activities so that carers can give their views.
North Tyneside Clinical Commissioning Group
All 29 GP practices in North Tyneside are members of the clinical commissioning group. Recent structural changes to the NHS have placed CCGs at the centre of regional healthcare, so in addition to looking after the health of the local community, North Tyneside CCG has overall responsibility for the development and planning of regional healthcare services. To do this they ensure their healthcare professionals are up-to-date with clinical best practice and their care programmes are backed up by thorough research, for the benefit of all patients.

The Changing Places Consortium has launched a campaign on behalf of those people who cannot use standard accessible toilets. This includes people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and their carers, as well as many other disabled people. They need Changing Places toilets which are publicly accessible with enough space and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench and a hoist.
The Counselling Directory website provides a huge counselling support network, enabling those in distress to find a counsellor close to them and appropriate for their needs. This is a free, confidential service that will hopefully encourage those in distress to seek help.
